Where each one appears
On a standard search results page, an AI Overview may appear above ordinary links. It can be absent for some queries or regions. An AI Mode tab, when offered, appears among Google’s search filters and leads to a different search view. Google also documents direct access to AI Mode.
| Feature | Location | Extension control |
|---|---|---|
| AI Overview | Panel on a standard results page | Block AI Overviews |
| AI Mode | Separate tab or search view | Hide AI Mode tab |
What the extension changes
Disable AI Overview hides recognized overview panels locally in Chrome. Its separate AI Mode option hides a recognized search tab on supported results pages. The switches do not disable either feature on Google’s servers, and hiding the tab does not remove every possible route to AI Mode.
The blocker avoids hiding a container when it appears to include ordinary results or tools. If Google changes a layout, an unrecognized overview may remain visible until detection is updated.
Choose the view you want
- To keep the standard results page and remove a recognized summary, leave Block AI Overviews on.
- To remove the AI Mode tab from supported result layouts, leave Hide AI Mode tab on. You can turn this off without restoring hidden overviews.
- To get Google’s link-focused view without an extension, choose the Web filter, sometimes under More.
If a normal result disappears, pause the extension in its popup, refresh, and compare the page. The troubleshooting guide explains how to report a display issue.
Common questions
Does hiding AI Mode also hide AI Overviews?
No. The two switches work independently.
Does Google offer a permanent switch for AI Overviews?
Google’s AI Overviews help page describes them as a core Search feature. The Web filter shows a different, link-focused results view.
