How to avoid AI Overview on Android
- Open Google Search in Chrome or another browser and run your search.
- Find Web among the result filters. If it is not visible, scroll the filter row or look under More; the layout can vary.
- Select Web to see text-based links without the AI Overview panel.
The Web filter is a different results view. If you return to All or start another search, you may see an Overview again. Google’s Android help page describes the filter and explains that core Search features cannot be turned off.
How to avoid AI Overview on iPhone
The same Web filter works when Google Search is available on your iPhone or iPad. Run a search, find Web in the filter choices, and select it for the link-focused view. The exact position of the filter may change with the browser and screen width. Google’s iPhone and iPad help page describes this option.
Why not install the Chrome extension on my phone?
Disable AI Overview is built for desktop Chrome. Google’s Chrome Web Store help says extensions and themes can only be used on computers, even if a mobile browser requests a desktop website. If a phone offers “Add to Desktop,” that installs an extension on your computer, not on the phone.
Does turning off “AI in Search” in Labs help?
Labs controls an optional experiment. Google distinguishes that experiment from the core AI Overviews feature, so changing the Labs switch is not a reliable way to remove all Overviews. Use Web when you need links without the generated panel.
When you switch back to a computer
If you want to keep the standard results layout and hide recognized panels locally, read how to disable AI Overview on desktop Chrome. The extension’s Chrome Web Store submission is under review; the site will provide the store link after publication.
